At 1 week of the beginning of the race, 35 participants, of different profiles, are registered, including 7 women, and are representing 11 nationalities, South Africa, Algeria, Austria, Germany, Belgium, Costa Rica, United States, France, Japan, Sweden and Singapore. More than 20 of them will compete on the Extreme course.
They will be framed by the 20 members of the organization, including 7 French firemen, 1 doctor, two kinesitherapists, 2 professional's guides as well as an ambulance 4x4 and a coordinator of the Costa Rican Red Cross.
The French Ambassador, Mr. Fabrice Delloye, will receive us on November 22nd, for the opening ceremony of the race and the press conference.
From the 23rd of November, the course 2012 will drive the competitors from the Beach of Manuel Antonio, to Santa Maria de Dota, La Esperanza, the Tapanti National Park, El Humo, San Pablo and the descent on rafting of the river Pacuare until November 29th where they will reach the beaches of Manzanillo on the Caribbean coast.
The Extremes will cover a total of 196 km through 5 stages and a prologue with a total positive difference in level of 6 850 meters whereas the Adventures will cover a total of 116 km for a total positive difference in level of 3.850 meters.
Solidarity projects 2012:
To finance the solidarity projects 2012, we have already collected more than 7.000 $ which will allow us this year to answer partially to the requests that we have received and this can be added to the 85.000 $ of support brought since 4 years for the populations of the areas crossed by the race.
Our aids this year will go mainly on schools renovation projects, on school kits for the children (school bags and stationeries) as we did in the past, but also on a new project of providing new school desks which is concerning the majority of the schools that we had visited.
Lastly, in order to allow the participation of a greater number of runners from Costa Rica on the next editions of The Costa Rica Ultra Trail, we will propose in 2013, a stage open to all the local runners, for approximately 42 km and 2.700 meters of positive difference in level.
We would like to thank the Ambassador of France, Mr. Fabrice Delloye and the staff of the French embassy for their increasing and effective support, through a partnership convention, and through the organization of the press conference and of the opening ceremony of the race, on November 22nd, 2012 in the Residence of France.
On the top of that, the French embassy will sponsor the Costa Rican runners Roiny Villegas, winner 2009, and 2nd in 2010 and 2011.
The Costa Rica Ultra Trail, La Transtica is organized by the French associations CG Sport Event and El Nino but is also represented officially in Costa Rica by the “asociación deportiva El Nino” registered at the “registro nacional “of Costa Rica since May 2012.
